Who Are PCDL?

Although Pevensey Coastal Defence Ltd was not a known name, individual members of the consortium are familiar names within the sea defence industry:

Westminster Dredging Co. Ltd is part of the Royal Boskalis Westminster Group, the largest dredging contractor in the world and currently operating in more than 50 countries across 5 continents. The core activities of the group are dredging, reclamation and coastal protection. Westminster Dredging has been established in the UK for more than 65 years and during that time has worked for every major Port and Government Department, executing and participating in some of the UK's most prestigious projects. The company was founded in 1933 and is the longest established and most experienced dredging and marine contracting company operating in the UK today.

Dean and Dyball Civil Engineering, a division of Balfour Beatty Regional Civil Engineering, is a specialist regional contractor serving customers in the public and private sectors. Best value is delivered through the company’s directly-employed workforce, extensive in-house fleet of plant and long term arrangements with supply chain partners. Just to the east of Pevensey, Dean & Dyball completed the Bulverhythe coastal defences project in 2005 for the Environment Agency in partnership with the Pevensey Coastal Defence team.

Mackley has been involved in coastal defences and maritime civil engineering since 1928 and has worked on much of the coastline in southern England. Based in West Sussex the company has a staff of over 140, including site operatives, engineers and managers who have many years experience. Mackley operates Customer and Environmental Care Procedures on all sites and received a bronze award from the Considerate Constructors Scheme for the Felpham Coast Protection project.

The Mouchel Group is a professional support services company with clients both in the UK and overseas, and has been actively engaged in marine engineering projects for over 100 years. The company currently employs close to 11,000 staff, and the Ports and Coastal Group has more 30 engineers and scientists which are supported by other divisions such as GIS, geotechnics, planning and environmental sciences. The group has a strong track record along the south coast, with particular expertise in the planning design and management of coastal protection schemes.
